• Peter Desmond, head of Music and Performing Arts in Haringey Borough, writes :
“Max Wynter introduced me to his Jazzmatic concept in the Spring term of 2001. I was impressed by the planning and content.
We decided to fund a short series of assemblies during the Summer term which were offered to Haringey primary schools. The sessions consisted of carefully planned school assembly performances which aimed to involve the audience in a variety of ways.
One of the Jazzmatic sessions was observed as part of our OFSTED inspection for Standards Fund expenditure. The inspectors were very impressed and the session was mentioned favourably in their report.
We plan to offer Jazzmatic to more Haringey Schools in the near future.”
• The OFSTED report described the performance as ‘very good’, and went on to say:
The “…jazz quintet played well chosen repetoire. They involved the music coordinator and a pupil learning the trumpet, also a good number of pupils who volunteered to sing or dance. The performers gave good demonstrations of jazz features and used and explained technical use of language.”
• Ms. E. Pittman, Head Teacher at Tetherdown Primary School, N10 wrote of a performance in April :
“All the children of Tetherdown thoroughly enjoyed the Jazzmatic performance. The music was lively and varied, spanning a range of Jazz styles. The commentary was clear and informative: Max introduced the instruments and outlined something of the history of Jazz. The most successful element was the way in which Max and the band were able to actively involve the children. One of our year 6 pupils summed it up: ‘Even though we were enjoying it we were still learning things.’
I would be happy to recommend Jazzmatic throughout the primary range
